OFFICIAL SHOW REPORT 2009
A record-breaking attendance and a brilliant weekend
Classic Ford Show 2009 – a record-breaking attendance and a brilliant weekend for classic Ford fans! If you were there at the weekend, I hope you’ll agree that this year’s show was one of the best yet! It was also the busiest as more classic Ford enthusiasts than ever before turned up to take part. If you weren’t there, then read on to find out just what you missed! The Classic Ford magazine team all had a brilliant time watching the quarter-mile action and hanging out in the sun with everyone there.
With classic Ford enthusiasts converging on Santa Pod from all over Europe for this year’s Classic Ford Show, some to camp for the weekend, the weather was bound to be an important factor - and Mother Nature didn't let us down. The sun beat down on the cars, owners, traders and enthusiasts for two days solid, and the only clouds in the sky were tinged with rubber and exhaust gas from the burnout area at the start of the strip. We were in for a fantastic weekend; with some amazing track-action, including some beautiful drag cars and the rocket-fuelled FireForce Jet Car; if you didn’t see it, you certainly would have heard it!

At the centre of all this was the Classic Ford mag stand, where a huge gathering applauded the Great Unveiling of some astonishing builds. Gasps greeted Joe Little's rat-look Mk1 Escort, with some onlookers unsure what to make of the unique VW-inspired looks, and the other cars' covers were removed to more combinations of awe, envy and, above all, wide-eyed curiosity. The special displays of Capris and Anglias to celebrate the 40th and 50th anniversaries respectively also drew big crowds. This was particularly noticeable around Manny Galena's roof-chopped Capri, where the most-heard comment was, "is that a Mustang?" before an explanation followed... Pel Norman's amazing drag Capri made a brief appearance before heading to the strip to wow the assembled masses. More people lined up to have their photos taken beside the Star Cars, with Life on Mars and Minder fans jostling with Professionals and Ashes to Ashes nuts for a close-up inspection of their heroes' wheels. And there was, of course, Round 3 of the ever-popular Old Skool Ford Drag Challenge in amongst all the run what yer brung mayhem.

As always, the best part of the weekend for me and the team was just being part of an event with so many other classic Ford enthusiasts, united together by their shared passion for the metal. That’s what it’s all about.
