2012 Show Report!

Classic Ford Show returned to Santa Pod Raceway for 2012 and it had to be one of the busiest, best and most action packed yet!! The 2nd event in the Adrian Flux Auto Series did most definitely not fail to impress!

The sun was absolutely blazing and the only thing hotter than the weather was the action on the strip, with the owners of every type of classic Blue Oval setting super-fast time after super-fast time.

Classic Ford Show

Professional teams lined up alongside dedicated home mechanics to show off and test their pride and joy. The showground was heaving with Ford fans keen to cop an eyeful of the nation’s best selection of cars, from vintage to retro and standard to frankly outrageous.

All the clubs did themselves proud with huge displays, and if you got the chance to walk around them all you’d have seen a superb selection of motors!!!

Live Action!

The drag action was absolutely unbelievable – from the pros to the novices amongst us. The Jet Car I think took the prize for the fastest on the strip but if we don’t include this rocket car….the winners of the RWYB sponsored by Rally And Competition Equipment (RACE) on the day were as follows: -

Power & Style Awards in association with SFS Performance

Entries for this year’s Power & Style Awards in association with SFS Performance came in thick and fast! The worthy winner was tough to judge though and we can announce it was Joshua Barker from Chesterfield with his Diamond White Mk2 Escort four-door. A beautifully presented interior and trusty 2-litre Pinto under the bonnet.
Well done to Joshua, who gets a £150 SFS Performance product voucher for his efforts.

Homebuilt Heroes

Homebuilt Heroes show us what we can do when we set our minds to it. The standard of many of these cars is now close to, and in some cases better – than that achieved by the pros, a strong indication of just how strong the classic Ford scene is!!

Classic Ford legend, Barry Lee

The (non-metallic) star of the show was Classic Ford’s special guest Barry Lee, a champion driver in six formulas from Rallycross to Trucks. With Bryn asking the questions, Barry’s tales ranged from his early days learning throttle control in speedway through the glory days of driving Escorts and developing new technologies for Ford, to losing the brakes on a racing truck. And for a man who ’died’ twice after crashing a £130,000 soap-box racer at Goodwood, there was only one answer to ‘what’s been the best part of your career?’. “Being here at this show,” he says. “The best moment is always today. Slowing down is overrated!”

Club Cars

The Club cars were just out of this world and we all know they are what lies at the heart of CFS!! Some had travelled far and wide so big nod of respect goes to XRRS Owners’ Club of Holland. This well-travelled group are behind one of the best Ford events in Europe at Venlo each year and 15 members had made the return trip over to the UK’s finest show – in a broad range of vehicles including a Mk1 RS2000, Mk2 Mexico, Mk3 XR3 and several Granadas. We take our hats off to the Mk2 Cortina Owners’ Club (not forgetting the Cortina’s 50 year anniversary!). The display really did show the true essence of the Cortina! Pick of the bunch was a Fern Green 3-litre Savage and Rod Smith’s left-hooker export-spec Estate!

Roll on 2013

We thought it was an excellent day but it was great to hear what you all had to say….
‘That was my first CFS, can’t wait till next year! It will hopefully be the catalyst for me getting mine finished before that next one…maybe unveiling. Thanks again to everyone involved, it was well set up and run with military precision. Brilliant day’

Karl Jones: Facebook

‘Brilliant day today, nice weather and great crowd, also to see my dad (whose first ever Santa Pod show) reminisce about his old motors and talk about the cars again after loosing interest many years ago and looking in amazement at some of the motors going down the strip, all in all a great day, and me dad is now thinking of buying a project all in all a successful day, roll on Ford Fair, also Mondeo Nationals at Wickstead Park, both should be good shows, may even have the ST200 ready for one of them lol’
